Women taught me first

1–2 minutos

Looking back to my childhood, I have witnessed the presence—though unfortunately undervalued and mistreated—of strong, unconventional, defiant, and inspiring women around me.

Grandmothers, mothers, aunts, sisters, cousins, bosses, colleagues, friends. Each of them has shown me one or more examples worth following.

This post is not a study or a generalization, but rather my personal life experience, where I have seen the reflection of values, principles, and character in the women I grew up with, the ones I have watched work, and those I have worked alongside.

I have learned to be silent. That while expressing my opinion is sometimes important, at other times, it is even more important to listen and choose the right moment to speak.

I have learned to respect the opinions of others. That while my perspective is unique, I can learn much more by listening to what others have to say.

I have learned to look at others with compassion. That everyone has a life story we do not know. That some find the tools to overcome life’s challenges, while others take a lifetime to do so.

I have learned to work hard. That even when others’ values do not align with mine, that should not influence my commitment to doing my work ethically and morally.

I have learned to fight. That life does not always paint things in rosy colors. That some experiences make you question the entire universe, but they should not stop me. That I can keep searching and working for a future that brings me peace.

I have learned to appreciate the smallest details. Like the green buds on trees as spring approaches. Like a bitter coffee, but in good company. Like a message reminding me of a meaningful friendship. Like a phone call just to hear each other’s voices. Like a prayer wishing each other strength. Like a hug that revives the soul.

This post is a thank you. To women.
